To begin with, all of articles in “WordPress Initial Setting” category are tips for improvement, and none of them are “mandatory” settings. WordPress should be ready for writing articles without these. Please do not worry about or overwhelmed for not having any knowledge of customisation described.

  • Settings: General settings of the site, regardless of the theme (design templates) you have chosen.
  • Appearance: Setting up your theme (design), sidebar, footer menu, and fine tune the appearance.
  • Plug-ins: Installing additional functions for the site, for example, SEO, AMP, redirection, etc.
  • External Communications: Setting up Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google Adsense, etc.

Here is the breakdown of each section;

General settings of the site, regardless of the theme (design templates) you have chosen.

Below list is the items I actually change (note for myself);

  • Timezone, Date and Time format
  • Site Language
  • Summery Feed
  • Disable “External Link” notification
  • Information requirement for “Comment”
  • Privacy
  • Users (This is in Users section)

Appearence

Setting up your theme (design), sidebar, footer menu, and fine tune the appearance.

Items I personally change are;

  • Theme
  • Child Theme (in server)
  • Favicon and Logo
  • Header Navigation (aka Global Navigation, Site Navigation)
  • Widgets (Sidebar, Footer Menus, etc.)

Plugins

Installing additional functions for the site, for example, SEO, AMP, redirection, etc.

My regular plugins are;

  • Jetpack (Akismet)
  • GDPR Cookie Consent
  • Contact Form 7
  • Table of Contents Plus
  • Yoast SEO
  • Redirection
  • AMP

External Communications

Setting up Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google Adsense, etc.

  • Google Search Console
  • Google Analytics
  • Twitter (Not always)
  • Blog Ranking Site (Occasionally for learning purpose)
  • Google Adsense

Thanks!
